Chevron second quarter earnings showed a triple increase in earnings amid higher oil and natural gas costs for consumers. Does this mean we are being gouged by the oil companies?
Higher pump prices are being blamed on consumer demand, but is this true?
Exxon Mobil Corp. posted income of $7.56 billion in the quarter, Royal Dutch Shell Group boosted second-quarter earnings 15 percent, and ConocoPhillips said profits nearly tripled in the April-June period, and Chevron Corp. reported net income of $5.4 billion.
The real story: Oil consumption in the US has fallen in each of the past three years. So the higher prices at the pump are not based on supply and demand so much as plain gouging.
The US is the largest oil producer in the world producing some 7.196 million barrels per day (Mb/d), or 8.5% of the world’s total. This is more than Iran and Kuwait combined.
But with consumers strapped for vacation money, and lacking confidence in the economy, and the higher prices at the pump, there is no doubt we are being gouged. Perhaps if congress really cared they would pass an excess profit tax, surely that would help stave off some of these large deficits, actually it could help pay for all Americans health care.

The Taliban have said that US General David Petraeus is killing more civilians and drawing more attacks on US and NATO troops since he took command in Afghanistan.
The Afghan Taliban said on their website `Petraeus only accomplishment since he took over US and NATO troop command three weeks ago, is civilian casualties (mass murder), which is being considered by many nas his new war strategy and tactic`.
The website claimed that `90 non-combatant defenseless civilians have been martyred by the US invaders` blind bombardments across Afghanistan over the past two weeks, adding that such actions only create growing resentment by Afghans against foreign troops`.
Over the past one and a half year the US forces have increased attacks with unmanned drone aircraft in Afghanistan. Regarding these attacks Taliban said `of every type on US invading forces…have reached record levels since General Patraeus took charge. The consensus among the people of Afghanistan is there is a lack of morale among US troops which has left Petraeus with no other alternative but to resort to carrying out his vicious war plans and tactics, which are causing further civilian casualties (mass murder) over and over again`. This is creating a whole new generation of terrorists who will carry a hatred toward the US

The worst floods in the region since 1929 according to UN have so far claimed the lives of al most 800 people in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa of Pakistan. Unconfirmed sources say that approximately 104 people are missing. Due to the disastrous non-stop monsoon rains the province has been cut-off from all the other parts of the country.
It is feared that the number of casualties may increase as many people are still under the debris of the buildings and houses. In addition, thousands of people have been stranded as the three day continuous rain has washed away many houses.
Pakistan Army continued its relief and rescue operation in the flood-hit areas and so far 14,250 people have been evacuated from the affected areas. Navy teams are also taking part in the rescue operation as boats have been sent to the flooded areas to escort people.
Considering the seriousness of situation the government of Pakistan has sought the help of the United Nations and international community for humanitarian assistance and rescue and relief activities in the affected areas of the country.
The meteorological department has forecasted that another monsoon weather system is developing over India, which is likely to move towards Pakistan and cause more rains in Sindh and Punjab province from 2nd August.

On 28th July 2010 at 6:14 p.m. local time, a military cargo plane crashed at the Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage. The military plane was on a training mission when it went down in a wooded area located at the east end of its runway.
The incident occured when the pilot made an attempt to turn the plane towards runway 5.
Rumors are that four crew members were aboard at the time of the crash; however their condition has not been disclosed. It is reported by people who witnessed the crash, that a gray smoky cloud went up almost 750 feet. Lt. Gen. Dana Atkins said that it was a local training task but unfortunately it looks as if no one will survive.
The number of casualties has not been revealed. Alaska Gov. Seal Parnell has expressed his condolences concerning the crash and loss of life; he also showed compassion for the crews’ families.
“Alaskans are very connected to the military, and our thoughts and prayers are with Alaska’s Air Force family,” Parnell said.
Air force officers are carrying out an investigation. This plane incident is the third aircraft accident in Anchorage this year. In June one child was killed and four other were seriously burned after a plane left the city’s small airport and crashed.

According to analyst in the market world, Gold continues to strong a very strong commodity, with prices having gone steadily higher over the past five years. With older mines being depleted, companies are looking for new opportunities for gold mines.
One area generating interest is south of the border in Mexico. Gold American Mining Corp. (OTCBB:SILA) has recently reported in a press release that the company has an option agreement to purchase an undivided 90% interest in two gold mining concessions in Zacatecas State, Mexico. The option covers over 282 hectares. Each hectare is about 100 acres. Although Canada and the United States account for about 20% of the world’s gold production, Mexico is also a gold state. As more and more companies are looking for places to mine, going south to Mexico seems like a strong strategy which may provide golden returns for SILA shareholders.
